Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Starring: Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Elijah Wood
Director: Michel Gondry
Country: USA
Genre: Drama, Romance
This is the skinny-jean wearing hipster anthem of the decade, (if films can be ‘anthems’.) The quiet and inhibited Jim Carrey struggles with a faltering relationship with one of the decades top five quirky female characters plays directly to the emo-sensibilities. Of course, playing to greasy hair teen angst wasn’t the intentions. It’s quite an emotional film filtered through a mind-bending science-fiction filter, penned perfectly by the always intriguing Charlie Kaufman (Adaptation., Being John Malkovich.) The one thing that I always tend to appreciate when watching this film is Gondry’s way of filming his ultra-big A-lister stars in a way that understates their presence and allows us to take them as real characters, not actors. It has some amazing performances by its main and supporting cast, and very effective trippy direction to accompany the bizarre tale of love.

My first thought after seeing this film was, “How many people can I introduce this film to?”
Outstanding.

Fitz – I’m pretty sure there’s no one left in the world that hasn’t been introduced to it by someone like you and me, haha.
