Survival films are often exhausting to watch, especially with a duration over two hours. Experiencing the hardships with your character being thrown into a foreign situation and being forced to rely on basic human instincts to survive is both a nightmare and a fascination. But Into the Wild creates an interesting perspective as its main character doesn’t disappear against his will, but at his own will. He chooses to face the forces of nature. This makes the journey all the more exciting as his see-what’s-next attitude becomes something we can live vicariously through. Personally, I was unfamiliar with the book and didn’t know what to expect with this film, outside of what its cast and trailer had to offer. Not knowing anything about his journey made it all the more powerful to watch, especially its conclusion. Ignorance was bliss.
